Pitch Your Script
Pitch us your best idea for a 3-5 minute comedic vignette set at the Ace Hotel in New York City. Avoid sketch comedy and take advantage of the location to create character driven pieces that are intelligent, artful and comedic. We're looking for something seriously funny, something that will make us laugh and make us think.
Thank you for your submissions — Killer is currently reviewing scripts and will announce their shortlist on November 17th.

From the Studio
In this character-driven suspense comedy short, filmmaker Dee Austin Robinson weaves a story about a dysfunctional relationship where a stronger bond seems to exist between the woman and her cat (Charley) than between the couple themselves.
Maya Kazan's "Lulu at the Ace Hotel" has just wrapped principal photography as one of the selected films for our collaboration with Killer Films and the Ace Hotel.
We are thrilled with the news that Loop Planes, our first collaboration with Killer Films, has made it to SXSW this year.
Killer is extremely excited to finally move into the preproduction phase of our project with Massify and the Ace Hotel. We've selected three films to produce from the final twelve.

I like your concept man, kind a reminds me of Tim Burton's surrealism. Have you thought about that project in CGI animation?

I love the vibe. Very funny. Very cute. I could see myself playing the bell boy.
Really great story, and I really love the idea of Charley being a puppet; that's going to give a great sense of character. Best wishes to you, I'd love to see this get made.
I like the concept, especially that this time he checks in to the hotel is more intense because he is stepping forward into his transition to a woman. And it possibly still leaves the viewer with questions of how far he will eventually go and what will happen next. I can see the coverage of him in the hotel, the intensity, the shaving, all being very captivating.

Charley
"You hate cats, musicals and Jesus." Love this line. Hits way too close to home. Great payoff at the end. Your plan of how to bring the character of Charley to life seems well thought out and feasible on a budget. Very interesting short.

THE DELUXE ROOM
Very cute. My favorite of the three shorts that you submitted (though I quite liked The Standard Room as well). The back and forth feels very authentic.

Practice
There's a lot to like here. Short and to the point. Subversive. I really enjoyed it.

A novella concept
Very satisfying ending

Teacher's Pet
Would be tough to pull off on a budget but a very well conceived short. "Half A Stop" was one of my favorites from the last contest. Despite the logistical challenges posed by the scope of the story, this one is just as strong.

Aasim the Lover
