Synopsis
Shannon is a single American Graduate Student in her mid-twenties. Ethan is a Scottish man in his late twenties who recently moved to America. Little does Shannon know, Ethan is married, however unhappily. They are not instantly attracted to each other, but they know there's something about them that could make their relationship work. The theme is sacrifice, especially the ones lovers make to be with their partners. Ethan gives up smoking because Shannon is an asthmatic, and he eventually gets a divorce so he can be with her. I'm still working on Shannon's sacrifices, but I'm thinking one of them will be her spotless academic record as she embarks on this romance.
So here's a briefing on what exactly happens. Ethan and Shannon have a chance meeting when they're both waiting for the same bus. She strikes up a conversation after having Ethan put his cigarette out. They get off the bus, hoping to meet again, which they do in a club. Ethan manages to keep his marriage a secret, but asks Shannon out on dates when he needs to escape his wife. Shannon, being single, doesn't have to hide the relationship, and her roommates are extremely happy for her, as it seems she's been happier and healthier with the arrival of Ethan. The morning after Shannon and Ethan finally have sex, Ethan runs out on her, lamenting what he'd done to his wife. Shannon is hurt, and extremely angry, but eventually gets over her anger. She doesn't want Ethan to get a divorce just for her (though she doesn't know he'd already filed for one), and she tells him she'll find someone else. He tells her how unhappy he and his wife are. Not convinced that Ethan won't cheat on her as he did his wife, Shannon makes plans to give up all she'd worked for and moved to the West coast to start over. Naturally, on the day she's scheduled to leave, Ethan comes bursting into the airport shouting about his finalized divorce. He reassures Shannon that loving her is not the mistake loving his first wife was by telling her the trick his father used to tell his mother was "the one." By then, Shannon has missed her flight, but this is of little importance to them as they're happy to finally be legitimately together.
