Synopsis

Robert (a professional artist) and Stephanie (a set designer) are aqcuaintances in a group of mutual friends living in Manhattan. They are all wealthy either from personal success or family money and fall into the artsy, culturally-informed category. Robert has developed a border-line obsession with Stephanie and tries to cross the "just friends" barrier at Chloe's (a mutual friend's) Upper East Side party. Their conversation, marked by Robert's misguided attempts to impress Stephanie, ranges from painfully comic to downright disturbing. This verbal exchange throughout the entire film as scenes from the party are intercut with scenes from Stephanie's increasingly panicked walk home. When Stephanie realizes she is being following by Robert, she turns a corner to hide. In her frenzy to protect herself, she hits Robert on the back of the head with a piece of scrap of metal. The rest of the film is in silence and we see Robert lying dead on the ground. When Stephanie sees that he is holding her scarf in his hand, she realizes he was only trying to catch up to her to give her her scarf, and that she completely misunderstood his harmless intentions and let her fear take hold of her better judgement.

Character Description
Stephanie is well-off but not self-made like Robert. She rebelled against her parents' wealth and private school snobbery by going to an obscure arts school but currently lives off of her trust fund. She is a set designer for Cherry Lane, a theatre in Greenwich village. She and Robert live a couple blocks away from each other in Greenwich and run into each other mostly in their favorite bookstore, Skyline. Stephanie is intelligent, witty, hip and beautiful in her own way.

Robert / Leading

Gender
Male
Age
26
Ethnicity
White/Caucasian
Character Description
Robert is a very successful painter. He becomes border-line obsessed (but harmlessly so) with Stephanie, an acquaintance of mutual friends. He is painfully awkward with women and nothing he says around them ever seem to come out right, but he is a genuinely nice guy. Growing up Robert was one of those crazed anime/Comicon fans, and he never thought that his paintings would bring him extreme wealth and high social status. Robert didn't grow up rich unlike his other friends, so he is modest, down-to-earth and might as well be oblivious to the fact that he is fabulously wealthy.

Chloe / Supporting

Gender
Female
Age
24
Ethnicity
Any
Character Description
Chloe is the host of the party. She is very wealthy but unpretentious. She is loud, bluntly funny and usually the center of attention. Chloe is Stephanie's best friend.

Natasha / Supporting

Gender
Female
Age
27
Ethnicity
Any
Character Description
Natasha is a good friend of both Stephanie and Chloe. Natasha is wealthy as well. She is more sophistocated and reserved than Chloe but more up-tight than Stephanie. Natasha completes the dynamic of the trio very well.

Jonah / Supporting

Gender
Male
Age
25
Ethnicity
White/Caucasian
Character Description
Jonah is a bonified rocker-asshole on the surface, but really cares about his friends. Jonah is a trust-fund baby and still hasn't moved out of his parents' penthouse. He spends all of his time either rehearsing with his shitty cover band or getting high with his groupies. Jonah has been Robert's best friend since college.
