Synopsis

Hidden within the darkest realm of the mind exists a vast, unrealized source of energy. What if the human mind is pushed past the limits of what is known, and the darkness that lives in those shadows, unlocked? For centuries, mankind has studied the human psyche, unleashing its expansive power. When eight strangers, linked by a crippling fear, unknowingly tap into that energy, they empower an evil fueled by fear. When something terrible is unleashed, the group must come face to face with an entity more terrifying than the past that haunts each of them. In an effort to draw clarity from what is real and what is imagined, they must battle that which they fear most in order to survive: the realm of the unknown. Do you remember why you were afraid of the dark? It does.

He was starved and locked in a basement crawlspace for nine days in complete darkness. Since being rescued, he has developed a severe case of Nyctophobia. A breath-stealing fear of the dark, Adrian does not like to be alone in the dark. "The Ticklers" come out of the darkness. Leisel's fear causes her to live and work in constant light - from all angles - so as not to cause a single shadow.  Her 2300-square-foot loft apartment is an open room with white walls, white flooring with lighting beneath, and windows and mirrors on all walls.  The furniture sits directly on the floor so that nothing can ever get beneath her, especially a shadow.  She is an extreme minimalist and has only the bare essentials in her home.  The lights are always on, day and night.  Her fear stems from when she wandered into the woods, at age eleven, while on a picnic with her family.  She would never be the same after that day.  She witnessed a brutal murder.  The murderer was shadowed by the trees and the streaming sunlight, which caused his form to be distorted and frightening to the young girl.  She was chased by this man, never to fully see him. The event has left her traumatized by anyone or anything that is shadowed.
