Overview

  • Bio

I'm a working motion picture Sound Editor. I've been on staff at a major studio since 1989. I'm married and have two kids. I live in the Los Angeles suburbs. I went to film school at USC and undergraduate school at Brandeis, in Boston. I grew up on Cape Cod, as did my dad. My mom is from Maine. That's why she calls herself a maniac.

  • Interests and Activities

I'm political. Everything gets filtered through that prism. I was also an art major in college, and had a studio in Brooklyn, so there's that prism, too. And there's also the dad prism, the husband prism, the son prism and all that.

  • Favorite Movies

Whatever I'm working on. It's a survival strategy, you know what I mean? Maybe 'favorite' isn't the best word, but looking at films over and over tends to make you a little batty. Lately I've enjoyed 'Michael Clayton' and 'There Will Be Blood,' but didn't work on them.

  • Favorite TV Shows

TV? I tried to watch TV when we got the Dish Network. It just didn't interest me. I watch what the kids watch and comment on it. Aren't I an asshole?

  • Favorite Books

I tend to read non-fiction, like the Nation magazine. I did read Carl Bernstein's 'A Woman in Charge' and Seymour Hersch's 'Chain of Command.' I read on-line, too.

  • Favorite Music

Jazz. Rahsaan Roland Kirk. I listen to KJAZZ out of Long Beach, CA and KPFK out of North Hollywood. I like hearing lots of new stuff. I like Frank Zappa. I like Springsteen. I like Bob Dylan. One of my best dates, years ago, was at the Vine Street Bar and Grill to see Joe Williams sing.

  • Favorite Talent

Huh? In other people I admire clarity, tenacity, committment, boldness, improvization. In me, much the same.

  • Favorite Quotes

Oddly, being a lefty, I always liked something that Richard Nixon said to Ike: "Shit or get off the pot!" I like what Neitzsche said: "When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you." I also like something that Eleanor Roosevelt said: "Try and do something that frightens you every day."
