I'm a Director /Editor. Once I entered college I started taking internships in everything from PA to editor. At my editor internship I did such a good job that they started to pay me, and since then that's where a majority of my income is from.
I am also a Director. I think that being an editor helps with this as I know exactly what is needed to make a good cut in the editing room. I am very much a character Director, and feel that the most important part of the film is the story. A film is nothing without a good script. And then also, nothing without a good cast and crew.
As an editor and director I feel it is very important to make the audience feel what the writer feels when they are writing the script. My goals are to make the audience laugh, cry, feel love & sympathy, ect. I feel that a lot of films today do not cater to the audience, but more to the film maker who created it. I think its a flaw in the system, causing movie goers to not enjoy the movie or be confused. I think it is very important to make sure the Studio, Director, and Audience is happy. I think the movies we all love had all three going for them.
And adding to my experience I also Ad and Produce films on occasion. This is very important in relating to directing and editing because I know the meaning of a deadline, and respect it. I am efficient with my time, stay on schedule, and on budget.
