The small-town Texas native, e.E. Charlton-Trujillo has worked on over thirty short films and, most recently, edited the feature film Night Fliers. The multi award-winning artist began her career at Killer Films and later worked with directors Betty Thomas, Douglas McGrath, Lucy Walker, and most recently Oz Scott.
Charlton-Trujillo won the prestigious Delacorte Dell Yearling Award for her first novel Prizefighter En Mi Casa which garnered a number of accolades. Her second novel, Feels Like Home, received critical praise and earned a host of additional awards.
She recently created an original one hour drama, Dear Watson, that was shot in Cincinnati, Ohio. Currently, Dear Watson is being shopped in Los Angeles. The ambitious filmmaker who took the top prize at the 2009 Cincinnati Fringe Festival for Vanessa Rising directed The Global Lovers for the stage at the 2010 Cincinnati Fringe Festival. The Global Lovers placed a close 3rd for the Audience Award out of 29 plays!
Currently her film One Day Summer, co-directed with Colette Thomas is in post production and she has revised her third novel, working on a picture book and developing several television ideas. She served as head writer for the company AccelerateFX which was selected as a finalist for Cincinnati Innovates 2010. She is also the co-director of the Underneath Cincinnati Film Festival.
Thoughts On This
As a filmmaker and a novelist, I've spent a lot of time working with off kilter stories, often in non-linear storytelling dealing with family unrest. It's great to to see lyrics like Don't Forget Sister. They lend themselves to the universality of family and have the room to approach the "story" of them in many unique ways.

I used to run around with a Kodak 110 camera as a kid making my own version of movies. Then advanced to the VCR to VCR hook up on my parents family sized console TV. A great nostalgia but glad to be nonlinear these days. As for inspiration, early on it was renting films from the small-town Video Arts & More such as: *Ordinary People, The Accidental Tourist, Star Wars* and a variety of pop culture films. Cutting edge documentaries and underground independents weren't part of the repertoire.
Now, I'm a filmmaker/novelist/web designer and all around let me learn a new way of story telling gal. I want to work in feature films and savor the flavor of shorts. I've had a taste of being around some incredibly insightful and talented filmmakers, so I hope what I've gleaned will continue to propel me into my own voice as a female filmmaker.
