Bio
Suraj Das, Writer/Director
Suraj Das is a talented, up and coming writer and filmmaker who has established a reputation for telling novel stories in innovative ways. Raised in the Bronx, New York, his parent's Indian background and the diversity of cultural influences found in New York City have endowed him with a boldly unique storytelling perspective, which he has used to great effect in numerous scripts and films.
Even before he attended the esteemed Kanbar Institute for Film and Television at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Das was recognized by Duke University's Talent Identification Program, and received their Award for Excellence in Junior Filmmaking (2002). At New York University, Das has made his mark by writing and directing a number of notable short films tackling bold subjects with a distinctly original stylistic approach. His last film, The Morning After (2007), was one of the select few chosen from over 150 shorts at NYU's Intermediate Film Festival 07' to be screened at The First Run Film Festival 2007, where it received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting.
Having recently assisted during pre-production and principal photography on-set on Mira Nair's The Namesake (2007), Das has also worked as an Assistant Editor at PBS' flagship Thirteen station in New York City, on the television program, Curious. He is currently completing post-production on his thesis film, Arranged (2009), a short film that combines the vibrant beauty of Bollywood musicals with the sophistication and charm of the finest American romantic comedies. He also works as an editor along-side industry-veteran Ron Kalish (Love and Death, Sleeper).
