Connections (20)
Music is more than knowledge for Alex; it is his way of existing in the world.
From the age of five, he would study his brother playing the piano, and listen to
songs on the radio and play them from memory. After begging his parents for
piano lessons, he realized what he was born to do.
By the time he was in his late teens he had already performed for two US
Presidents, and was on his way to starting a band with Chris Ocasek, son of the
lead singer of the Cars. The band they formed was signed to EMI/Capitol
Records.
As Alex continued on his journey, he became Creative Director of Elias Arts, a
major music house in NYC. During his 14-year tenure there, Alex was honored
with numerous industry awards for best original music in commercials for clients
including Audi, Levi's, Nike, Mercedes Benz, National Geographic, HBO, and
Volkswagen.
In his spare time, he continued to explore outside recording projects. He wrote,
arranged, and played keyboards on Grace Jones’, “Bullet Proof Heart,” and
played keyboards on Yes’, “Union” album. As a child, Alex dreamt of film scoring
- admiring such films as “Charade” and “Fahrenheit 451.” It is at this time, that
his childhood dream to compose for film resurfaced. John Barry asked him to
remix the main theme for the “Dances with Wolves” video soundtrack and then
Robert Downey asked him to arrange the title soundtrack to “Chaplin.”
Alex is also a staunch supporter of the arts. He has been collecting
contemporary art for more than ten years and his paintings have frequently been
requested by museums around the world. He graced the cover of ART News in
’97 for a story on nine collectors under the age of 45 who “…have a commitment
to the long-term journey of art as opposed to the quick trip.”
