Accidentally Famous
Two best friends accidentally rise to fame after a Hip Hop music video they've produced mocking Hip Hop itself becomes an overnight You Tube sensation.
Accidentally Famous - Sometimes Fame Is Only A Click Away.
After producing a mock Hip Hop music video entitled: “Almighty Holla” and uploading it onto You Tube for fun, two best friends thought they made a funny video for their own enjoyment. Little did they know, a week later and after more than 7,000,000 hits, what was supposed to be a joke would make them two of Hip Hop’s biggest stars.
During their last summer before going off to college, Reuben Tyson and Cody Hoffman have found themselves bored beyond belief. After watching a slew of hip hop videos on MTV during one afternoon, Reuben casually utters four words that would come to define both his and Cody's place in the world of Hip Hop: "We can do that."
Using Cody's parent's McMansion as a backdrop and his father's Mercedes as a prop, they set out to produce what would become You Tube's most popular song and one of the biggest Hip Hop tracks in the history of the genre.
Suddenly launched into a world of fame and fortune, Reuben and Cody must now learn how to manage their "careers" and navigate their new celebrity lives within a world they know absolutely nothing about. Seeing this as an opportunity they can milk for millions, the two decide to fully exploit their new found fame, along the way working with some of the music industry's top artists who all consider them creative geniuses.
As their albums climb the charts and their heads grow out of control, fame begins to take its toll on their friendship which ironically moves them closer to becoming the egocentric artists they originally set out to mock.

Don Saparina I can't totally see this as a feature length film(maybe it's just me). It seems as if you said everything that needs to be known about the story in these 5 pages, and I can't see where it's really going to go after that, without getting redundant. From your synopsis, it sounds like the lead characters start to turn into people we wouldn't want to relate to either. So, I don't know, maybe you should think about taking it into a different direction, because the story at this point just sounds like a Hip-Hop version of "The Rocker"(even though I liked it, I don't think it was all that successful). Something to think about.
March 10, 2010Christian Ramirez Hey Don. Thanks for the constructive criticism and comments. I wanted to address some of the points that I maybe did not touch on in the synopsis for everyone who reads it. I didn't want to give too much information about the story, figuring the trailer would do that for me, if and when the film gets produced. ;)
March 10, 2010Accidentally Famous is a movie about the challenges friendships sometimes have to endure. In this story those challenge are set against the demanding worlds of fame and celebrity. At its core, the story explores the characteristics of humility and pride and how just about anyone can grow a big head and become someone they're not given enough praise and adoration from yes-men. It's also a social commentary on the entertainment industry (specifically music) and how these days just about anyone can become the next big star regardless of talent, and in this case, regardless of it being accidental. It's a satire on pop culture that will force viewers to look in the mirror and see where we've gone wrong in society by employing some serious comedy to make its point. The film will also be one of the first to address social media and how it has impacted our lives. And it will tackle the world of celebrity gossip which is extremely popular these days given those are the only magazines currently selling on newsstands. In the end, Accidentally Famous is an old-fashioned buddy film with some modern nuances that are relevant to our society today. It's a film to watch with all your friends that will both make you roll on the floor laughing and make you think as it delivers a simple message we can all appreciate: good friends are hard to find.
Josh McKenzie I don't know what it is exactly, but something about this rubbed me the wrong way. I think the dialogue was coming off as attempts at trying to plagiarize on the contemporary/wanna-be hip aspects of YouTube and FaceBook. And the fact that this contest is going to make the winning submission into a "YouTube" short, seems too much like you're shamelessly playing on that. Or, maybe it's just because I'm not hip or privy to the whole YouTube, FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter crap that seems WAY TOO big at the moment... hey maybe that means you might succeed. Who knows? I just don't.
March 9, 2010Mei-ling Mee Your writing seems good, but I didnt really think it was that funny. Sorry.
March 9, 2010The Bad Luck Gal! You have no luck today. Sorry.
March 9, 2010William Stephens WHAT?!
March 8, 2010Luke Steinberger I think this has the potential to be funny, but I'm not sure I agree with the pages you chose as your scene sample. This doesn't really give me a feel for what the movie is going to be about, and it definitely doesn't accomplish anything that the synopsis doesn't also get across.
March 8, 2010My other concern would involve the plot development. What is going to happen after they become famous? Not that it's a bad thing to maintain suspense, I'm just curious and hopeful that you have something great figured out.
Still though, love the idea. Best of luck with everything. If you get a second, I'd love for you to review my submission.

Kase T. Gunn A very timely telling of a classic rise and fall story. My one criticism -- it would be nice to add a few choice lines of character action in between all that dialogue. Just little things the characters are doing.
