Men that Clean
Two garbage men find a camcorder in the trash & decide to make a documentary about their lives. The film becomes hilarious, shocking & satisfyingly meaningful.

On a routine night, two New York City garbage men find a video camera in the trash that sends them on a not so ordinary wild adventure. Deciding to film a documentary on their lives, they re-examine how they came to be garbage men as well as the challenges and poetry of their profession. From the shock of the human waste problem to their unique opportunity to see life as few others do.
At one point, the two "Men that Clean", Isaac and Vishal rescue a gorgeous belly dancer being stalked by two Guidos on her way home from a late night gig. As she relates stories of her life and work, Isaac and Vishal become mesmerized by her grace and mysterious Middle Eastern beauty. The three identify with each other regarding being misunderstood and judged in the society. They bond, laugh and even enjoy Baklava together (an Arabic dessert ) but eventually part ways.
The story ends towards the end of the night at the city dump amongst mountains of trash. The boys realizing that although they are trash men, they can still have pride and happiness. That it's not what you do in life but how you do it.

June 2, 2009Thank you so much for your comments. We definitely plan on using video footage from the characters as they shoot-their point of view through the camera. Another note, we very much would like to tell the story in a more visual "show me vs. tell me" way. Our process has always been to workshop the script alot with the actors, improvise to get the most real voice possible and cut unneeded dialogue. Most of our writing is done after we hear and see the actors live it. Thanks !
Killer Production Team James Sehring Cool concept. The opening is very dialogue heavy and expository, but the video camera is used well. Would you use footage from within Isaac's camera?
June 2, 2009I like the consistently light hearted tone and there are opportunities for poignant moments in the script. My only critique would be that the central characters could be more nuanced. There is room to develop their back stories, which would have made their personal discoveries more effective for me.

May 26, 2009Pierre Stefanos Men that Clean - Hey Daniel & Bayou - Since I seem to be the only one not from your Facebook pages commenting, I hope a real comment won't offend. :~) This is a fun script. It's very talky tho - not so much the hallmark of a short, but I'd like to see the feature-length. You'd be able to better visually state your case about waste. Good luck!
