Crowd Control
The fake-blood soaked streets of Salem on Halloween night are so busy an obviously psychotic killer could go unnoticed in the crowd of thousands...

The movie follows several different groups of characters throughout the night with interconnecting stories.
The first is a group of local punk/goth/mallrat type of kids. They're locals and hate Halloween and tourists. They are barely in costume. They have a night of vandalism, spraypainting, and provocation planned.
Then there are a group of frat boy type guys that are just in town to be rowdy and go to bars. They are not in costume. Their night begins centered around trying to "pick up sluts", but quickly de-evolves into bar fights etc.
The protagonist is a tour guide that gets fired after his first tour of the evening. There was a mysterious stabbing during his tour and, thinking that it was just another Halloween prank, he encourages the tour to continue and leave the victim behind. The victim is a one of the punk kids and has a reputation of pulling pranks. After the police interview him his boss fires him to avoid bad PR.
The police don't want to cause panic so they keep the killing a secret and hope it's an isolated incedent.
It's not. The killer blends in to the crowd even with blood all over him. He's been planning this night for years. He will be changing masks and costumes throughout the night. He thinks he is on a mission from God to kill heathens and pagans and Halloween is, essentially, a pagan holiday. At one point he joins the protagonist's tour and, hearing that the guide is a practicing witch, remembers his face and makes him a target.
----
I want to add more. Lot's more. I want there to be other groups of characters, maybe some kids who work in a local haunted house, some people that work as vendors, obnoxious hot chicks dressed in idiotic costumes, and some more respectable characters.
I was thinking I wanted the film to be a bit campy and have some comedy, but decided to make it very artsy instead. There will be a bit of comedic relief etc. but the scenes will be cut and jagged. I'm thinking It should look like an old school music video by Nine Inch Nails or Marylin Manson.
The music will be intense and electronic in order to add to the unsettling vibe of the cinematography and the confusion and panic the charactors feel.

March 15, 2008Thomas Vallor I was actually just using those bands to refer to a more generalized idea. More like chris cunningham perhaps?
March 15, 2008The idea is to have really still shots for some scenes and then switch it up to the more jagged and cut stuff during more hectic times, kind of to disorient the audience and give those scenes a more unsettling feel.
I wouldn't want to film the whole thing like a music video. That would be too much.
asdfasdfasdf I really would love to see this movie on the big-screen but for a simple difference in tastes. I'm not much a NIN or Marilyn Manson fan, and have always sorta hated how that jump cut, green-lit, wide angle lense 'style' has found its way into how directors shoot horror films in general. Thankfully the GENIUS of asian horror sorta smeared the fad, but still. I'd love to watch your movie idea, I just would NOT wanna see it in that style one bit. I hope you understand.
March 15, 2008Benjamin Ross this sounds really good!
