JUBEI, a ruthless samurai, is on a mission to avenge the destruction of both his village and family. He uncovers the culprit, TOBOSAKU, an evil mage possessing mystical powers, and tracks him down to a base hidden deep in the woods. After an intense battle, Jubei, thinking he has defeated the old man, lets his guard down for one fatal blow, a powerful curse imprisoning Jubei in hell.
500 years pass and we are now in contemporary Japan. Two rival Yakuza clans are waging a gang war in a day spa, the very same spot where Jubei was cursed. OZU, a yakuza boss, accidentally unleashes the demon Jubei loose by destroying the talisman that sealed his curse, temporarily freeing him. However, in doing so he also binds his soul with the demon. The only way for Jubei to reverse the curse is to slay Tobosaku, who Jubei assumes has been dead for half a century, thus his curse is infinite.
Only when Ozu desperately pleads for help from the Demon to rescue his girlfriend, Ai, that Jubei discovers Tobosaku is somehow still alive. A final confrontation will decide the fate of not only the two warriors, but of the entire existence of reality, as we know it.

Cyril Augustin Nice editing. Looks good. I'm a huge fam of martial arts films and Asian films so this film is a definite must watch film...

March 7, 2008cagwa I like some of the visuals like the trees and multiple layers.
March 6, 2008Verbal Alchemy This looks great Raffi! You do such excellent work! You are definitely a creative force to be reckoned with. I'll be excited to follow your upcoming projects because you are extremely talented!
March 5, 2008Keep it up!
Raffi Asdourian I understand where you're coming from on the pitch not sounding scary enough or being able to connect to the protagonist, particularly because of the nature of concept. However, I feel the horror of this story comes from the tragedy of Jubei's life. Consumed by rage, his thirst for revenge is like a drug addiction, never satisfied. When he ends up in Hell, it's a horrific amplification of this truth. For him, reality is an endless parade of death, transforming him into a hateful demon with an unquenchable thirst for blood. It's only when he is released back on Earth that he can he confront his terrible twist of fate and try to redeem himself. So I feel like some people can connect to his story. And Hell and Demons inspire some pretty scary stuff in my opinion, hope this clarifies it a bit.
February 28, 2008And I really appreciate your insight to the pitch and thanks for the comment!
screamqueen Unique idea, though I have to say, it fails to sound at all scary. When reading new horror ideas, to me, one of the most important things is just how scary this movie is going to be, and will I leave the theater taking some of that emotion with me. I fail to feel a connection to this particular plot, although I give you kudos for taking a very different approach from that of anyone else in this competition. This really seems like a fresh, new idea... just not a very scary one.
February 28, 2008Raffi Asdourian Despite some similarities on paper, this is not at all intended to be like D-Wars. Think more along the lines of Miike and Tsukomoto in terms of style and tone. For example "Izo"
February 28, 2008Edward Nigma i'm nervous about these films since D-Wars
