What would America be like if every gun law was repealed? Set in the near future, Will Hackett and his family know all too well. Everyone carries weapons and homes are fortified bunkers. Paul Hackett is routinely shot at by his elderly, paranoid neighbor, and the Hackett children endure sniper fire and gun battles at school on a daily basis.

Being the only life they know, the violence is taken in stride by most people, but it takes its toll on Denise Hackett as she constantly fears for her children’s safety. Denise convinces Paul to move to a town were weapons are banned — New Tundra, Minnesota.

Will begins to realize the benefits of living without the constant fear of violence and starts to grow emotionally as a young man.

What the Hackett family doesn’t know until after they’ve moved is that the Association is actively working to overturn the town’s ban on weapons. The effort is piloted by a small but increasingly desperate group of men under pressure from the organization’s national headquarters. When the repeal attempt fails as a referendum, the leaders of the movement create fear in the community by staging a bold robbery. This event pulls the Hackett family reluctantly into the controversy and ends their dream of a finding a violence-free Utopia.
