Deals cut for 'Saw VII'
It turns out there’s plenty of life left in “Saw” and Jigsaw John. With “Saw VI” due to open in the usual October slot, Lionsgate has greenlit “Saw VII” with a January start of production. David Hackl — production designer of the second, third and fourth films and helmer of “Saw V” — has been tapped to direct. Mark Burg and Oren Koules, who have produced all six of the “Saw” pics, are back as producers. And scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who penned the fourth, fifth and sixth films, are writing the seventh.
'Strangers' returning
A sequel to “The Strangers” is set to begin shooting this fall. “Strangers 2″ will be produced by Relativity topper Ryan Kavanaugh, Roy Lee and Doug Davison from Vertigo, and Nathan Kahane from Mandate. Producers have tapped French helmer Laurent Briet to direct. Briet’s a commercial and musicvideo director who also worked on visual effects for “The Ring.” Bryan Bertino, who wrote and directed the first film, wrote the sequel. Story is being kept under wraps.
Kureishi tackles 'Tiger'
British scribe Hanif Kureishi has been tapped to adapt Aravind Adiga’s 2008 Booker Prize winner “The White Tiger.” Smuggler Films’ Patrick Milling Smith and John Hart produce with Ascension Entertainment’s Jolyon Symonds. Tale is an India-set, rags-to-riches murder story that is also darkly comedic.
